Michele Hine

Michele has been a professional actor, director, and acting teacher for 35 years.  She has a Masters degree in Directing and was a co-founder of, and lecturer in, the acting department of The Bachelor of Performing and Screen Arts at Unitec for many years.

She has acted extensively in TV, film, and theatre, most recently as Carol in Go Girls series 2 and 3.  She will film series 4 later in 2011.  In the last year she has also been seen on stage in the title role of The House of Bernada Alba, The Vagina Monologues, Toys, and won a Hackman theatre award for her portrayal of Jude in The Idea of America.

Reviewed in London as "An artist of extraordinary quality" (The Daily Telegraph), and locally as "a phenomenal actress who rules the stage," Michele has performed in Britain, Europe, Australia, and Japan.  She has toured NZ in two highly acclaimed solo shows and performed with such companies as Theatre Corporate, Downstage Theatre, Dramadillo and A Lethal Set.

Her screen appearances include two Disney films, Return to Oz and Atomic Twister, the internationally acclaimed short film This Is Her and a yet to be released feature The Most Fun You Can Have Dying.  TV roles include Shortland Street, Mercy Peak, and Away Laughing.

Michele has taught acting both nationally and internationally including students at Unitec, Toi Whakaari, and Auckland and Victoria Universities.  She is passionate about teaching the craft and giving actors both creative inspiration and practical tools to inhance their performance.  She has developed, and taught, courses in characterization, improvisation and introduction to acting techniques, drawing on many years of experience as an actor and director fused with intensive investigation into different ways to assist actors to develop their unique talent.

Michele is very excited about the development of The Actors' Program.  She strongly believes in developing actors with a high level of professionalism, excellent craft skills to take into diverse performance arenas, and the creative ability and confidence to both fulfill a role and create their own work.
