LEGEND OF THE SEEKER (tv): Michael is playing the evil wizard Amfortas in episode 12 of the new American tv series Legend of the Seeker, produced by Disnery/ABC Studios and Ghost House Pictures, which is being filmed in New Zealand. He also directed episodes 8 ("Denna," scheduled to air 10 January 2009) and 10 ("Sacrifice," schedule to air 24 January 2009). See homepage for additional information. XENA CONVENTION (live performance): Michael and Jennifer will be appearing at Creation Entertainment's Official Xena Convention at the Los Angeles Marriott at LAX from 30 January to 1 February 2009. They will be celebrity guests at the convention and perform in the cabaret, and Michael will participate in a panel discussion on the movie Bitch Slap. The Widow Twanky will also put in an appearance, interviewed by Jennifer. Click here for tickets and additional information. LIFE IS A DREAM (theatre): Michael will be directing his own adaptation of Pedro Calderon de la Barca’s Life is a Dream, a masterpiece from the Spanish Golden Age which is an exultant journey through a fairy-tale landscape of destiny, desire and illusion. A Silo Theatre production (in conjunction with AK09), it will be presented at the Herald Theatre 13 March-10 April 2009, in repretory with Oliver Driver's Back Story, a devised piece. The two plays together will comprise the second edition of Silo's Ensemble Project, both using the same group of actors discovered through an extensive audition process. PETER AND THE WOLF (orchestral narration): Michael will provide the narration for The New Zealand Symphony Orchestra production of Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf, an AK09 presentation aimed at children 5-12. SHE STOOPS TO CONQUER (theatre): Michael will be directing Oliver Goldsmith's She Stoops to Conquer for Auckland Theatre Company at the Maidment Theatre, 30 April - 23 May 2009. Click here for more information. LOOT (theatre): Michael will be directing Joe Orton's Loot for Silo Theatre at the Herald Theatre, 23 October- 21 November 2009. Click here for more information. THE MAP READER (film): Michael plays the father, Ben, in the New Zealand film The Map Reader, directed by Harold Brodie. It had its world premiere at the Austin Film Festival in Austin, Texas on 18 October 2008, and was then shown at the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival in Fort Lauderdale, Florida where it won a Spirit of Independent Features Award. It is expected to open in New Zealand on 5 February 2009. See the trailer here. BITCH SLAP (film): Michael is starring as Gage in the U.S. feature film Bitch Slap which is expected to premiere in late 2008/early 2009. THE ADVENTURES OF VOOPA THE GOOLASH (tv): Michael voiced two characters, Moogabi and Choo, in a new animated kids' tv show, The Adventures of Voopa the Goolash, being produced by Photon Animation. An article dated 25 April 2003 on the Rocky Horror Preservation Foundation website reported that Michael would reprise his role as Riff Raff in a tv movie re-make of the Rocky Horror Picture Show for Fox TV; however, Michael is not involved with any Rocky Horror movie. |
